SLICE's LA Engage is an up-close introduction to the vibrant City of Los Angeles and allows students to experience culture, art, history, food, the urban environment post new student orientation. This eventful year-long program you to connects your with new peers while exploring LA's beautiful sites! All tours are guided by LA Engage trip leads along with staff and faculty chaperons.

Tuesday, August 19th, Private Screening of Clueless at Vidiots - Kick off your college experience at Oxy with a classic campus tradition! Join your fellow classmates for a special screening of Clueless at Vidiots in Eagle Rock—a beloved neighborhood video store and theater. Fun fact: the movie was filmed all over Oxy’s campus, so you’ll spot some familiar spots on screen! It’s the perfect way to hang out, meet new people, and celebrate your new home in true ‘90s style. Sunday, August 24th, LA Engage Tracks

• Local Gems (NELA) - Experience the best of Northeast Los Angeles (NELA) on a vibrant, activity-packed tour! Start your day with a light hike up Eagle Rock’s famous Fiji Hill for panoramic views of the city. Afterward, cool off with refreshing treats along charming Colorado Avenue. Then, embark on a fun-filled food tour scavenger hunt down York Boulevard, sampling the best bites from Highland Park’s top eateries. Cap off the day with a private two-hour bowling session at the historic and stylish Highland Park Bowl!
• LA Icons - Discover the heart of Los Angeles on a fun-filled educational tour that brings students up close with the city’s most iconic cultural and historic landmarks. Begin with a visit to the stunning Walt Disney Concert Hall and the contemporary art haven, The Broad. Ride the historic Angel's Flight Railway before enjoying a delicious lunch at Grand Central Market, home to some of LA’s top food spots all under one roof. Wrap up the day with a dazzling planetarium show at the Griffith Observatory, where breathtaking views of the city await.
• Cali Coasts - Explore the sun-soaked beauty of LA’s most iconic beaches on this unforgettable coastal adventure. Begin your day at The Getty Villa, where world-class ancient art, lush gardens, and sweeping views of Malibu set the perfect tone. Next, head to Santa Monica for exciting scavenger hunts at the famous Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade. After lunch, enjoy free time at the beach with options like swimming, boogie boarding, volleyball, bike and scooter rentals, or a walking tour of Venice Beach and Boardwalk. It's the perfect blend of culture, fun, and SoCal sunshine!

Friday, August 29th, LA Dodger Game - Kick off your first year at Occidental College with a night to remember at Dodger Stadium! Join LA Engage on Friday, August 29, for an exclusive LA Dodgers Game Night for all incoming first-year students. Come experience a classic LA tradition, eat a Dodger dog and celebrate the start of your Oxy journey. Round-trip transportation, tickets, and snacks will be provided. Space is limited, so don’t miss your chance to be part of this special welcome event!
