Damages

Students are responsible for knowing the following:

Any damage to a room or its contents must be reported immediately to the work order website so the necessary repairs may be made.  Failure to do so may result in damage charges. Normal wear of furnishings and equipment in a hall is expected. Damages, beyond normal wear and tear, to the room or furnishings will be charged to the individuals found responsible.

Permanent modifications to residence halls are prohibited. Residents may not paint, drill, cut, nail, or otherwise alter the permanent structure of any residence hall facility. This includes, but is not limited to, hanging items, installing equipment, or engaging in any activity that changes the physical structure of the space. Students responsible for unauthorized modifications will be charged for any repairs, replacements, or cleaning necessary to restore the area or affected property to its original condition.

Residents are also prohibited from making temporary or permanent additions or modifications to residence hall property. This applies to all areas of the residence hall, including interior spaces as well as exterior spaces such as patios and balconies.

If the identity of the person(s) responsible cannot be determined, the cost of repairing the damage will be divided among residents living in the space. An equal share of hall damages will be billed at the end of the semester. Excessive hall damages can be eliminated if each resident agrees not to let the damages occur, and to identify the person(s) responsible when the damages do occur. Damage charges will not be covered by programming and activities funds.
