Join us for an outdoor film screening and DJ set featuring works by dream hampton and Moonshine.
Occidental College Campus,
Join us under a late September evening sky for a film screening and DJ set inspired by and connected to our current exhibition Flesh of the Forest. The program will begin with dream hampton's poetic short film Freshwater, a meditation on her disappearing Black city, flooded basements, and the fluid nature of memory; followed by the kinetic Afrofuturism of the hybrid short film/documentary Zaïre Space Program: Act II from the collective Moonshine and a DJ set by the film's collaborators Hervé "Coltan" Kalongo, Adam "Foreigner" Cooper, and Farrah "San Farafina" Sintimé. "This is Africa as thought through the lens of Africans. It's a cultural awakening," says Moonshine's co-founder Kalongo. "Africa is in a race with itself. We find beauty in the things we do ourselves, something that has been taken away from us for a long time."
